The formula
Months under one year are scaled proportionally to the first-year figure. Life stages follow the AAHA/AAFP definitions: kitten (0–1), young adult (1–6), mature adult (7–10), senior (10+). We label cats 15 and over “super-senior”.

Frequently asked
How old is my cat in human years?
A 1-year-old cat is about 15 in human years, a 2-year-old about 24, and every year after adds about 4. So a 5-year-old cat is roughly 36 and a 10-year-old roughly 56.
Is one cat year really seven human years?
No — that’s a myth. Cats mature very quickly in the first two years, then age more slowly.
When is a cat considered senior?
Around 11 years (about 60 in human terms). Cats 15+ are often called super-senior or geriatric.
How long do indoor cats live?
Commonly 12–18 years, and many reach their 20s with good care.
